The move to localise is everywhere I look – this great program was full of the message – support local independent restaurants – the best piece (aside from the compulsive crumbling under pressure of chefs and owners) was the town hall meeting in which everyone was clear about supporting the local businesses.

The current system of government DIS-EMPOWERS the population from taking an active role in citizenary.
Representative democracies limit citizen participation to voting, leaving actual governance to politicians.
With the citizens out of the way, politicians can then get on with the BUSINESS of Government.
